ANOTHER WEEK

PRIME MINISTER SEES END OF SESSION WHAT OF LICENSING? (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. When he was asked when the session would end, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, said it should not require much more than a week to clean up the . business remaining to be done. Mr. T. M. Wilford (who had asked the question): W’hat! A week froth now? Mr. Coates: Yes, 1 think a week should see us just about through. The Prime Minister promised the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. H. E. Holland, that if there was an opportunity, lie would allow the report of the Imperial Conference to be debated by the House during one afternoon or evening. Mr. Holland: This week, or next week ?

Mr. Coates: I cannot say, but I will give you an indication when it is possible. In reply to a question, Mr. Coates said he was unaware that the report of the Samoan Commission was ready for presentation ,to the Government. He did not know whether the document had been finally dealt with by the Commission itself.

Mr. H. Atmore, Nelson, who asked the Prime Minister to make a frank statement upon the position respecting the Licensing Bill, was left little wiser. “I have been quite frank as to my attitude,” said the Prime Minister. “I have intimated to the House and to the country that I have taken time to consider the question. I am now in negotiation with the different viewpoints within the House itself, and later I will comply with the hon. gentleman’s request.”
