MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
PROGRESS OF WORK The Manurewa Town Board met last evening. Mr. A. C. A. Sexton presided. Mrs. Blampied wrote asking the board to carry out the whole cost of removal of spoil from her property, and to allow her £IOO damages. It was decided that the claimant be given reasonable access to her property, but that the board recognise no claim for damages. Mr. Gilbert recommended the installing of a 2£ h.p. engine to drive the pump at the water bore to test the supply. The Minister of Health w*rote stating the department could not see its way clear to establish a dental clinic at Manurewa. The board’s solicitors advised the necessity of a clause in the Washing-up Bill, to validate the use of the recentlypurchased block of land for a cemetery and sanitary dump to be used as a cemetery reserve only. The .Education Board advised its inability to establish a district high
school at Mantirewa. A letter was later forwarded to the member for the district asking- for the establishment of a Junior High School at Manurewa. The Postal Department did not think the population of the district warranted the installing of letter-boxes in the outer area, or the establishment of a public call telephone near the post office. The installation of a stamp vending machine at the post office was deferred nending the arrival of the new machines. Tho tennis club wrote asking for the payment of the balance of the donation from the board, amounting to £sl Is lid, for the laying down of the new courts. After a long discussion it was decided that the payment be made upon the satisfactory completion of the work when funds are available. Accounts totalling £l3O 18s Id were passed for payment. The tender of Burnside Bros., £142 10s, for the levelling of Jellicoe Park ; reserve was accepted.
