CAR RUNS BACKWARD

SOMERSAULTS DOWN BANK A two-seater Ford car, driven by Mr. Monteith, of Hamilton, which had run out of benzine and was being examined by the driver, suddenly commenced to run backward on a steep portion of Tawa Street, Te Kuiti, on Sunday evening, and quickly gathering momentum, crashed through a fence and somersaulted down a bank into a gully on the property of Mr. A. B. Jordan. The car was badly damaged and put completely out of commission. Fortunately it was empty at the time, otherwise there would have been serious results. The portion of the road where the accident happened is particularly steep and dangerous.
