LATE CAPTAIN E. STOTT
FORTY YEARS IN UNION LINE A well-known mariner in New Zealand, Qaptain E. Stott, died in an Auckland private hospital on Saturday afternoon at the age of 63 years. He was for 40 years in the service of the Union Company ashore and afloat. Born in Aberdeen, he came to the Dominion in 1885 as a junior officer on the company’s steamer Mararoa, Later he was chief officer on the steamers Manapouri, Arawata and Taiere. The small steamer Maori in the inter-island trade was his first command in the company. He was later master «i different times of the steamers Taviuni, Wan aka, Moura, Waihora, Manapouri, Moeraki and was in temporary command of the Royal Mail liner Makura for a short time. Captain Stott joined the company's shore staff in 1909 and was appointed marine superintendent at Wellington. In 1918 he was transferred to a similar position in Auckland. He retired on superannuation two years ago. Captain Stott never married, and he is survived by two sisters, Miss L. W. I. Stott, matron of Wellington Hospital, and Miss A. Stott, of Auckland.
