TROTTING

... By ‘

“Abaydos”

NOTES AND COMMENTS POPULAR COUNTRY FIXTURE PROVINCIAL GOSSIP With the Waikato (December 3) and ! Xorthland (December 10) following- I closely on the heels of the Otaliuhu fix- ■ ture, owners and trainers in and | around Auckland will have plenty to j attract their attention for several ! weeks to come. The entries received j for both the country fixtures are par excellence* and the success of the functions is already assured. Good Horses for Hamilton The Mark Memorial Cup, the principal event on the Waikato Club’s card for December 3, has drawn a splendid entry, including many pacers with pretensions high grade. Outside of Jewel Pointer, who stands in the first flight, there are such improving pacers as Great Actress, Loch Moigh, Festive Morn, Gold Jacket, Florent, Uncle Bert, Bold Bill, Amaris and others that are sure to make a wonderful contest when the day comes round.

Taking Them On That exceptionally good trotter, Waikaha, lias for the present left j the company of the square-gaiters and ! contents himself by •‘taking on” the ; pacers. On the second day at Alex- ; andra Park last month, J. Paul’s bold j trotter made a creditable showing in j the pacers' heat and may show to beti ter advantage to-day. He is in the | Waikato Cup also. Staying On Nelson Tasker has been pleasing his connections of late with his long-dis- • tance work, and he will be a starter in j the Waikato, Northland and other I country club big two-mile heats this : season. Me may be a starter next Wednesday over the longer journey. Big Entry Fifty-three entrants for the Frankton Handicap looks as if division rac ing will be in evidence at Claudelands j next month. The tightening up of the ! heats in the city is apparently beneI fiting the country clubs and swelling J the nomination list to a considerable I extent. Blue Mountain King Stock f J. McKendrick has accorded his promising filly Free Advice an entry at i Hamilton and Whangarei,, and there will be no scarcity of friends for the ! daughter of Blue Mountain King—ln- ! tiglios. The three-year colt by the Kibbonwood horse from Elsa Muon is showing improvement and will turn out trumps later on. Jack is also handling a two-year-old by the 1923 Auckland Cup winner from 5-«ou Dillon, dam of Dick Dillon and others. This youngster, black in colour, shows quality. Class for Whangarei A good clasps of horse is found in the list for the Northland Cup, and the entries all round signify early that the club will have a good fixture. Pacers like Molly Boy, Nelson Tasker, Amaris, Direct Morning, Florent, Reremai, Bold Bill, Dad’s Hope 'and others will give tone to the big event, and the trotters Sister Beatrice and The Tartar also appear in the list. A Promising Sort That good colt Explosion, a member of the solid Hawera stable presided over by the veteran Jim Bullock, is among a few promising pacers engaged at Whangarei on December 10. This colt made a splendid impression wherever he raced last year, and lie was one of 12 SUN horses selected as being possibilities this season. Should he start at the Northland fixture, he will be closely scanned by good judges. May Remain for Hamilton Most of the Taranaki and Manawatu horses at present visiting Auckland are nominated for the Waikato fixture, and it looks as if a number of them, at all events, will remain in the province till the Hamilton meeting is over. At Claudelands every inducement is offered for training purposes, a grass track as well as a dirt one being available for work.

i; Marble Star Doing Well Old Wimmera King, who is now back with owner R. Millen, is, despite his advanced.years, infusing a lot of dash into his work at Epsom of late. He may be given a run on Wednesday, and he figures in a trotting event at Hamilton. The same sportsman has Marble Star also engaged at the Waikato, and this sturdy horse is in great heart. FORBURY PARK FIXTURE IN VIEW ADDINGTON AND OTAGO TRAINERS IN PREPARATION (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. In view of the proximity of the Forbury Park fixture, affairs in the South are somewhat lively again, and both at Addington and Dunedin candidates are receiving plenty of work to fit them for the racing next week-end. Hawkesbury’s Pride can go in saddle. Wonder if Dolores can go in saddle. It is time that Stockade Junior got busy. Homplight is home the first time he Is right. Firebrand will be fierce on the opposition. They will think they are stepping on hot stones. Don Derby is a high-class colt, there can be no mistake about that. Robert Bell is overdue. He should have won a saddle sprint last season. Is Desborough a cheat or wasn’t he well last year? ACRE NOW RIGHT Acre is a nippy customer that will win short races. He has recovered from the attack of ear-ache. How about General Bingen in a mile saddle? Jolly Chimes has never been seen in the saddle, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t carry weight. Nelson Ata is good enough to win at Forbury', if he is kind enough. Taurekareka was a great three-year-old. He looks like coming right. St. Maura will tear off a big twomile race shortly.

NOT SO SOLID They seem to have found Harold Thorpe out. Desert Star is a proved two-miler, and a rough and tumble sort he is. On her Addington form Evelyn Locanda must soon win a two-mile race. Engagement will be up and at them at Forbury. She looks a Paris model after her sojourn in the spring grass. Bob Logan is due for a sprint, on his Cup meeting showing. Avenger should win a mile race. TERENCE WILL APPEAR Terence Dillon will be present at Forbury. Tennessee’s Child has been working nicely during the week. 1-Ie is in at Forbury but on the handicaps he does not look a winner. Stockade Junior is looking well and is pacing good. He is nicely placed on the limit at Forbury next week. Terence Dillon looks big and well after his spell. He and his stable companion Dalnahine will represent J. Henderson’s stable at the Forbury Park Club’s meeting. A FAST EFFORT Final McKinftey ran her usual honest race at Christchurch and won in fast time. No doubt the lightning state of the track accounted for the great improvement of the placed horses. J. Henderson and J. McLennan must have something of a record in milesaddle events. Pauo Pointer is coming on well and will be seen in great order for future events. Reta Corena has been kept going in view of racing about Christmas time. R. Carmichael has a good-looking full brother to Great Actress in work. He is a good pacer. THE REASON WHY Don Derby contracted a severe cold and had to forfeit his engagements in the New Zealand Derby Stakes. Bon Wood appears to be very sore. He won’t stand much hard work. Frank Henderson’s Logan Pointer — Avonia filly is shaping particularly well. I will be disappointed if this good-looking mare does not win races. Wild Nile and the Petereta gelding in McLennan’s stable are going along the right way. E. J. Dwyer has been spelling Free Pointer, but he is to be worked again in view of the holiday meetings. A GOOD STRING

S. Hawthorne is working a big team. He intends going South at Christmas time. His candidates probably will include Woodpointer, Nan Brent, Don Derby, and Golden Dillon. T. Clare is keeping Onoto up to the collar. As Tom says, Onoto will keep him up to the collar writing cheques. Lee Bingen is back at solid toil again. He is the makings of a good stake earner. Weatherston’s is in great buckle this season and the care bestowed on him should stand him in good stead. PLENTY OF SPEED Ingle Bingen can trot fast, but she leaves her feet at any old time. She suffers badly with corns, and her owner-trainer has tried every available remedy, but without success. Arctotis has made a good recovery from a very serious illness, but it will take him some considerable time to regain his former condition and racing dash. Ruby Bingen has been recommissioned. She has been laid aside for some time through ill-health. This mare showed promise of being a trotter worthy of all the care that was being showered on her, but it will now take her some time to build up to her former robust condition. WORKING ATTRACTIVELY Ivibiringi is among the active brigade at Forbury Park, and with his owner in the sulky he worked out a very creditable mile and a half this week. Four Bells is a much-improved horse and his work-out in company with Kibiringi, which was a nippy one, clearly demonstrated that he will stay out a distance yet. Tres Bon has had no dull moments during the leisure season, and she now looks fit enough to race for a kingdom. She may win a race. King Copa is being tried again at the racing game, but he will take a while to come back. TROTTING SOLID Master Peter is trotting in solid fashion at Forbury Park. Lie is one of the kind that can always be depended upon to give a good account of himself in a race. John Gilbert is looking a picture, but he has yet to make a name for himself as a race horse. Mountain Chimes has changed hands again. He is now owned by W. Hall, who will give this game little miler a good home. Celestial is a hard horse to understand. He does not perform his work with any consistency, and a trainer has to have a big heart to go on with him. The Logan Pointer—Hazel Rothschild Maiden horse in W. Grant’s stable has made wonderful progress at the pacing game. He can step a mile in very creditable time now. A full brother to John Appear is receiving his initial education at the game on the Forburv tracks. He is n very rncy-looking individual and the making of a eweet pacer.
