Jealousy
“Why don't these cricketers shut up when they’re disappointed!” This | heartfelt comment from a sportsman as he read what some of the Yorkshire professional cricketers had to say about 1 the appointment of H. Sutcliffe as the county eleven’s captain hits the wicket. Roy Kilner, Leyland, Dolphin, and Rhodes seem to have sunk in personal disappointment any gratification that could have been expected of them when Yorkshire made such a bold break from tradition and opened a new opportunity for professionals. Still, it must be said that Yorkshire is simply having, in the criticism from the paid players, a little taste of what has been experienced in similar ways in other branches of sport. Control of any sport or any unit of it is best left to amateurs, for the professionals, influenced by their job and environment into regarding their pursuit as much as a business as a sport, are prone to become jealous of one another.
