RECORD WATER DEMAND

NO PROVISION FOR WASTE WARNING TO HOUSEHOLDERS After having used something over an average of 8,000,000 gallons of water a day, with an occasional jump to over 9,000,000 gallons, Auckland used 10.100,000 on Monday. The demand is for about half a millions gallons a day more at present than it was at the same period last year, and the Water Committee of the City Council is taking action to point out that though there is ample provision for requirements, there is no margin for waste, and the use of unattended hoses and sprinklers, which are used illegally, will result in prosecution. At present the dams have 707,000,000 gallons stored, but the dams are not running over as they were last year. Recently 80,000,000 gallons has been drawn from storage, and about 4,000,000 gallons are being taken daily, and the streams are providing about 5,000,000 gallons.
