IMPROVEMENTS IN MT. ROSKILL DISTRICT
ROAD BOARD MEETS N The ordinary meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board \v;as held last even--IDThe Onehunga Borough Council submitted an estimate of £4lO 10s 4d for re-forming and metalling Pleasant Street for a distance of 650 foot. The board s engineer, Mr. J. D. "W hitmore, thought the amount reasonable. . . The secretary of the Wesley Training College wrote requesting the board to complete the water mains along Hillsborough Road in order that the water reticulation of the college property-might be connected up and he also wanted to know what action the board proposed to take in regard to the drainage scheme in its portion of the area proposed to be drained by the Mount Eden and Mount Albert Borough Councils. The trustees of the college are to be advised that the engineer of the Auckland Drainage Board is negotiating with the other local bodies concerned regarding the elevation of the invert for the main sewer. The board's engineer reported that after consulting with the Mount Albert Borough Council’s engineer on the question of reducing the grade of the board’s half of Mount Albert Road to the level of the Mount Albert council’s newlyconcreted portion, he recommended that the board’s half of the road be regraded and remetalled with the old metal. The traffic manager of the city tramways urged that a fair trial be given to the revised stopping places, and if it is eventually proved that the new system is inconvenient, he would be prepared to review it again. The lessee of Waikowhai Park, Mr. E. Cullen, who has been requested to grub the property, wanted three months’ notice before undertaking the work. A tender for the lease of the property was ceived from Mr. T. W. Farrelly, and the Parks Committee was given power to act regarding its acceptance. The Post and Telegraph Department will consider the advisability of installing a slot telephone at the corner of Ridge Road and Arkell’s Road, provided the board undertakes portion of its cost and maintenance. . The general account is in debit to the extent of £5,695 3s 7d. Loan accounts are £2,350 in credit. Thirteen building permits have been issued during the past fortnight of a total value of £6,560, and 32 buildings are in course of erection in the district. It was decided to call upon householders to have numbers attached to their gate-posts at their own expense according to a plan prepared by the engineer.
A sample of a standard number is to be seen at the board's office. The engineer of the Auckland City Council submitted estimates of the work to be done on the various boundary roads between the city and the board’s district: The Drive, £2.352: Selwyn Road, £2,540; St. Andrew’s Road, £540; Landscape Road, £2,050; total, £7,452. The half cost of these roads is to be £3,741, and the council agreed to carry out the work and give the board five years in which to repay half the cost.
