ADVERTISING RATES AND CIRCULATION
SOME INTERESTING STATEMENTS The retail advertisers of Auckland have been told more about advertising charges in relation to circulation during the past seven months than they had heard in the previous twenty years. THE SUN readers may be interested in some of the facts and figures given below During the first half of the present year the Auckland “Star” issued a circular from which we extract the following:— The last audited circulation of The Auckland Star was for the six months ended December 31st, 1926. It showed that the average net daily circulation of all editions over that period was 48,000 copies. There has been only very slight variation since. Now the principle of sound advertising is simple. If a genuine circulation of 10.000 is worth 1 /6 per inch, 20,000 is worth 3/-, 30,000 4/6, 40,000 6/-. On this basis, for the small sum of Id. you would be guaranteed a distribution of your one inch announcement to 550 different people. Looking at it the other way on.. let us examine The Auckland Star's circulation of 48,000. The Star contract rate for display advertising, based on this circulation, is 5/6 per inch. On September 19 the following appeared in the Auckland “Star.”:— Messrs. Gllfillan and Gentles and Messrs. J. F. Buddie and Son, Public Accountants, certify as follows: “We have audited the Circulation Books of the BRETT PRINTING AND PUBLISHING CO., LTD., and certify that the average DAILY NET SALES OF THE ‘AUCKLAND STAR’ are as under:— “We further certify that these figures are embodied In the Financial Books of the Company.’* FOR THE MONTH ENDED 31st JULY, 1927.
