Roads & Councils
Mr. J. E. Hamilton, of Hikurangi, was in Auckland recently and stated that roads in the Far North are drying up wonderfully. Provided reasonable care is taken no difficulty should be experienced in getting through, to anywhere this side of Awanui, and good travelling times can be made to Whangarei by the East Coast route. Several motorists were fined in the Pukekohe Police Court recently for driving at a dangerous speed through Pokeno. A traffic inspector was on duty in Newmarket on Saturday to prevent haphazard parking. During this week motorists are required to park head on to to kerb at any angle of about 50 degrees. On the following Saturday drivers will be required to back into the kerb. After observing the manner in which cars are controlled the Borough Council will incorporate the approved method in a by-law. After long neglect, the Domain Drive has at last received the attention of the City Council repair gang. At a meeting of the Thames County Council last week confirmation of the decision of the Main Highways Board to grant a subsidy of £ 3 for £ 1 toward the cost of work on the Coast Road was forwarded by the Minister of i Public Works.
