AUBURN CARS FOR N.Z.
AGENCY TO BE ESTABLISHED An interesting visitor to Auckland during the past few weeks was Mr. Leon Harris, Australasian factory representative for the Auburn Automobile Coy., Indiana, U.S.A. Mr. Harris is in New Zealand in connection with the agency for Auburn cars and is now able to report that an agency has been taken up by a large company, who will market the cars throughout the Dominion. The Auburn factory is one of the oldest in America, having been established in 1900, and it has recently been making a name for itself in the automobile world. Production figures for “Auburn” cars during the past two or three years show huge increases both for domestic sales and the export trade. This company has also extended its operations in the direction of acquiring other motor manufacturing plants. The Dusenberg Corporation, builders of the famous American racing car, has
been purchased, together with the Lycoming plant, and the famous Limousine Body Works. The “Auburn” factory does not build a car specially for racing work, but in many cases stock models have put up records for stock car racing. Just a few weeks ago, in fact, a stock model “Auburn” running on the Lincoln Speedway under the supervision of officials of the American Automobile Association, established 34 new records in one continuous run of 150,000 miles. Various other records have recently been established by stock model fully equipped “Auburns,” as this type of testing and racing is greatly favoured at the “Auburn” factory. Mr. Harris is leaving shortly for Australia, but expects to return to New Zealand at regular intervals to watch the progress of the agency.
