FROM A THAMES SUNBEAM

I had a great laugh this morning, i Some Maoris live just down the road 1 from us and I know one of them, a boy about seven. He has a very aged ; grandfather who lives with them. The little boy came along this morni ing and said: “Grandfather nearly I blew up one of the tomatoes.” Of course I demanded all particuI lars. It seemed that the grandfather 1 was helping the boy to set off his crackers. He picked up one of those big “bung-bungs” and lit it. He held it for a while, then threw it into the garden. Nothing happened, so he did not bother* any more about it, but suddenly the bung-bung “that had gone out” exploded. The grandfather thought tie was shot and not another cracker would he touch. A search next morning disj closed the fact that the top had been 1 blown off one of the tomatoes.
