HARBOUR TRAGEDY
INQUIRY BY JUDGE TAHITI OFFICERS RETURNING I By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. ' Reed. 9.24 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. The Attorney-General has announced that as a result of co-operation between the State and Federal Governments, Mr. Justice Campbell, of the Supreme Court, has been appointed to preside at the inquiry into the Tahiti-Grey-cliffe collision opening to-day. It has been arranged that the chief and second officers of the Tahiti will return from Wellington by the Maun* ganui arriving on Tuesday.—A. and N.Z. MODEST HERO TAHITI’S FIREMAN RESCUER (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, To-day. The fireman, F. Corby, who so distinguished himself by jumping over the side of the Tahiti when she ran down the ferry Greycliffe in Sydney Harbour, and was responsible for saving several people from drowning, was only 22 years of age. He won a life-saving certificate at Gonville Baths. It appears that his first rescue in Sydney Harbour was that of a little girl whom he had seen floating by. He jumped overboard after her. Corby is very modest. When a telegram was sent from Wanganui congratulating him on his bravery, he characteristically replied, "Dont believe all you see in the papers.”
