HARBOUR BOARD’S PLANS FOR THE NEW YEAR
ESTIMATES DETAILED CONSERVATIVE FORECAST The estimates as presented last year and those for the ensuing year were brought down at the meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday afternoon. For last year a balance in general account of £5,551 was forecasted. The actual amount was £35,388. The difference of £29,357 is accounted for by the following items; —Ordinary receipts, £24,079; various refunds and adjustments, £12,102; interest, £4,189; miscellaneous, £3,739; making a total of £44,109, less additional advance to loan’ account, £9,393; and contingencies, Manukau maintenance £4,ST9, making £29,837. The new statement of estimates carries forward the above-mentioned balance of £35,388, and provides for ordinary receipts £376.000. This is lower than last year’s actual receipts. Special docking and other items not likely to be recurring, and other considerations justify conservative forecast for “safety” purposes. Sundry refunds bring ~ the aggregate of receipts to £414,320.
The payments ex general account are scheduled at £414,320, leaving a balance of £72,405 subject to loan account having by September 30, 1928, repaid £69,393 to general. Items in the schedule are as follow; —* Interest and Sinking Fund . . £183,000 Reserves •• •• .. .. .. .. .. 6,000 Working Expenses and Maintenance Concrete Repairs 4,500 Re-roofing Sheds 1>*»«>0 Purchase of Lease 775 Redemption 11,200 Advance to Manukau Harbour . . 5.055 Works Commitments 15.925 Dredging 14;000 Cranes and Grabs 9,600 Miscellaneous 3,185 Balance 72.405 MANUKAU HARBOUR Receipts and Payments .. £13.135 LOAN ACCOUNT No. 10 Breakwater Boat Harbour .. .. £23,341 Devonport Wharf £32,227 Crane, Calliope Dock 5,000 The above are figures of works already approved. Other items, £87,000, are 1927-28 figures only, of works approved by the committee for inclusion in the estimates. For the above loan items £147,568 is required, and to meet this debentures for £ 100,000 will require to be issued, in addition to £36,900 now being offered. The loan account has been supported by the general account to the extent of £69,393, an accommodation which does not require adjustment until the end of next year. A further issue of debentures of £75,000 to pro-
vide for this refund is scheduled in the estimates for that date, as a sum of £104,000 will be due for interest and sinking fund early in -1929. The board considered the estimates in committee, and adopted them without alteration.
