TAXI-DRIVER GAOLED

HIT HORSE AND RIDER

INTOXICATION CHARGE Press Association GISBORNE, Monday. A sequel to a crash by a taxi-driver into a man on horseback at Tolaga Bay on June 11 was heard by the magistrate, Mr. E. C. Levvey, at the Tolaga Bay Court to-day, when Gilbert Schultz, to appear, was charged with bemg intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car, with negligent driving, with driving without lights, with failure to stop after the accident, and with failure to report the accident. The police brought evidence to the effect that Schultz, while intoxicated, crashed into a man on a horse, and both the rider and the animal were knocked down on to the roadway. Schultz drove on without stopping.

When he was questioned he denied having had an accident. On the first charge the accused was sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for 30 days, and convicted and discharged on the remaining charges.
