LATE MR. W. E. BENNETT

Mr. William Ernest Bennett, who died at his home, Papatoetoe, yesterday at the age of 55, was at one time a settler in the Mangatai district. Later he lived at Rotorua, where he took an active part in local affairs. He was the founder of the Rotorua Volunteer Fire Brigade and at one time was president of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce. He was also an active member of the district Reform League. Three years ago he retired and went to live at Papatoetoe. He is a brother of Mr. C. F. Bennett, of Auckland, and Messrs. T. H. and A. E. Bennett, of Palmerston North. Mr. Bennett is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter.
