CATHOLIC CHURCH

OPENED AT OTAUA BISHOP CLEARY OFFICIATES (From Our Oicn Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, To-day. In the presence of an attendance of about 200, the new Catholic church at Otaua was opened yesterday by his Lordship Dr. H. W. Cleary, Bishop of Auckland. “Those who have travelled through Europe, and especially those who were at the war, will recollect the marvellous structures, the houses of God; but those who attend this humble house will have the same privilege of worship as those in the most gorgeous edifices of God in the Old World,*’ said his Lordship. “All through New Zealand the Government has erected power-houses. Here you have a powerhouse of spiritual energy which will reticulate in God in His own way and time, and reach your homes.” In concluding a mosst stirring address, the bishop congratulated the architect, Air. Tole, the builder, Mr. Dayly, the parish priest. Father J. T. Taylor, and the congregation upon the handsome building. The function concluded with benediction, the Rev. Fathers Goodringer, Lyons, Molloy, and Taylor assisting. The building*, which is erected upon a section donated by Mr. C. Bayly, is 60 feet by 20 feet, has an octagonshaped sanctuary, and a sacristy attached. It cost in the vicinity of £ 700.
