LIGHT-WEIGHT MACHINES IN ACTION DIXON’S N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP (Special to THE SUE.) WANGANUI, Sunday. , The Wanganui Motor-cycle'Club held its annual races on the Wanganui Jockey Club’s course yesterday and although heavy machines were not permitted on the course the light-weight cycles provided some interesting contests. . New Zealand light-weight championship was particularly thrilling, being won by C W. Dixon (Palmerston North), who rode a 2J h.p. A.J.S., and defeated G, Goodwin (Newtown), w'ho had held the championship for two years. P. Coleman gave an exhibition ride, covering a mile in 54 4-ss. Results were:— Novice Race, 5 miles. —I. R- Nuttall (Wanganui), 2§ h.p. A.J.S., _2os, 1; E. Hemmingsen (Wellington), 15s, A. Deveny (Wanganui)/ 30s, 3. Gonville Handicap (open), seven miles. — T. Morgan (Greytown), 3h h.p. New Hudson, ss, 1; J. H. Ratcliffe (Auckland), 40s, 2; C. A. Wilkinson (Wellington), 30s, 3. Time, 7.32. Jockey Club Handicap, eight miles; class B machines. —R. Danby (Te Aroha), 3i h.p. Indian, 10s, 1; C. A. Wilkinson (Wellington), 10s, 2; H. Putt (Otakeho), scr., 3. Time, 5.19 2-5. Won by threequarters of a lap. New Zealand Lightweight Championship, for machines up to 350 c.c.; eight miles. —G. W. Dixon (Palmerston North), h.p. A.J.S., 1; T. Morgan (Greytown), 2jf h.p. New Hudson, 2; C. A. Wilkinson (Wellington), 2% h.p. Harley-Davidson, 3. This was the most spectacular and thrilling race of the day. The last two laps were full of excitement. Dixon forged ahead coming up the straight and a great race ensued to the winning post, Dixon winning by a few 3*ards. He was carried off shoulder-high and was subsequently congratulated by the Deputy-Mayor, Mr, J. Morrison. Wanganui Handicap, class A machines, six miles.—R. Danby (Te Aroha), 3J h.p.
