HIKUTAIA BOWLERS
OPEN THE SEASON The official opening of the Hikutaia Bowling. Tennis and Croquet Club took place last Saturday afternoon in glorious weather. Visitors were present from Thames, Paeroa, Te Aroha and surrounding districts. Mr. E. Eliott, president of the Bowling Club, welcomed the visitors, and expressed pleasure at such a large attendance. On Mrs. Eliott throwing the jack across the green, the season was declared open. Mr. Howard Morrison, president of the Tennis Club, said he was pleased to see such a large gathering, and welcomed them on behalf of his club. Mrs. Young sent the ball across the net, and the 1927-28 season commenced. Mr. Allan Grubb, on behalf of the Ladies’ Croquet Club, cordially welcomed the visiting ladies, and asked Mrs. Gubb to strike the first ball. During the afternoon a bowling match was played between the president’s and vice-president’s’teams. The scores were (president's mentioned first):— Smith, Williams, Taylor, Metham, 17 v.
