MAGIC WINS RACE TO ISLINGTON BAY

RICHMOND CRUISING CLUB’S SECOND EVENT OF 1927-28 SEASON Another race for centreboard boats was held on Saturday by the Richmond Cruising Club. There were seven entries and'all started. The course was from the Starting line off the Ponsonby Wharf direct to Islington Bay. There was a good breeze which gave the boats a good run to their destination. Wild Wave (16m), Kokiri (scr), Mowai (sm), Sun (8m). Magic (sm(, Matariki (10m), crossed the line in fairly close order. Kathleen (16m), which arrived late, crossed the line nine minutes after the scheduled time. Magic led passing the western tide deflector followed by Kokiri, Wild Wave, Mowai, Sun, Matariki and Kathleen in that order. Oft Devonport, Kokiri had overhauled Magic, the others following in open order. Before the sandspit was reached Wild Wave had improved her place and drew level with Magic. The wind then dropped to a light breeze and Wild Wave dropped astern. These positions were maintained until the finish.
