WHANGAREI CRICKET
SATURDAY’S RESULTS (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Sunday. In the Whangarei Saturday Cricket competition, three point wins were secured by High School A against Portland, and by Whangarei against Onerahi. Y.M.C.A. defeated High School B on the first innings and Marsden similarly disposed of Hikurangi. Portland compiled 12 for its -first 10 wickets. High School A replied with 69 (Gaulton 22 and McPherson 13). Portland did much better in the second innings, knocking up 52. E. Brainsby was right on his length, taking five of Portland’s wickets for one, while Harrison was almost equally destructive, his tally being four for seven. School B team made 103 (Birch 27, Miller 27, Hewin 18, Izzard 11). The chief scorers of Y.M.C.A.’s total of 127 were Collins 28, Thompson 17. Weston 15, Grove 14, and Mackey 11. Bowling for school, Birch took three wickets, Hewin and Thompson two, Griffin, Bergham and Miller one each. For Y.M.C.A. Collins secured six wickets Grove two and Dunn and Chilman ore each. Onerahi’s first innings realised M (W. Mtuson 17. S. Lovatt 15. A. J. Murdoch 13 not out). Whangarei knocked up 83 (Thomas 21 -not out, Stevenson 16). In the second strike, Onerahi was dismissed for 16, none of the team getting double figures. McLean and IStevenson were responsible for Onerahi’s defeat, the former taking five wickets in each innings, while Stevenson got two and four for eight runs.
