EIGHT-STOREYED HOTEL
PLANNED FOR SYMONDS ST.
REPLACING QUEEN’S HOTEL
To replace the old Queen’s Hotel, at the corner, of Symonds Street and Khyber Pass Road, an eight-storey building will shortly be erected. When completed, it will be one of the iargest hotels in the Dominion.
For immediate purposes four storeys will be erected, and when needed the building can be carried up to its full height. Designed by Messrs. John Farrell and Son, and Glover, for the owners of the existing hotel, Messrs. Garland Bros., the structure will occupy frontages of 103 feet to Khyber Pass Road, and 60 feet to Symonds Street. .
The main entrance will be from Khyber Pass Road, shops occupying the Symonds Street front. Adminis - trative offices will be on the ground floor, and there will be bar entrances from both streets.
Ninety-eight bedrooms will be provided for in the completed hotel, private suites, with individual bathrooms, being included. A flat roof will afford a splendid view of both harbours. This will be reached by a staircase and two express passenger lifts. The exterior has been designed on simple but very effective lines, and the result from an architectural point of view should be pleasing.
