AT ELLERSLIE

JOTTINGS FROM THE TRACK Fast work was not much in evidence at Ellerslie this morning, the majority of the trainers giving their charges only light tasks. The course proper (two trestles out) and the No. 3 grass were in use, while the sand and tan were also availed of for slow work. Right and Left had Welkne and Luxurious as companions over six furlongs on the course proper, which they cut out in 1.20. Right and Left held his companions safely at the end. This was the only gallop on the course proper. Memsahib, by herself, covered four furlongs in 55 1-5. Bombarder and Piet left five furlongs behind in 1.4. Brampton, Miss .Merton and a. companion ran the last three of four furlongs in 3S, while Odin and Carinthia took 3S 4-5 for a similar distance. Raleigh reeled off at the half-mile peg, running home in 53. Golden Krist, Arch Queen and Pompey occupied 1.5 for five furlongs, with Pompey going the best at the end. Branson was not doing his best to cover three furlongs in 40. Bahama, and Lord Guy traversed six furlongs, the last five taking 1.7. Marita (Methven) jumped four hurdles and gave a safe display. The Auckland jockey G. Holland has decided to take up residence at Te Aroha, where he will be emploved by the successful mentor, A. E. Cox. L. Wiggins will leave for Christchurch to-night to carry out riding engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting. Wiggins’s rides will include Laughing Prince, in the Stead Gold Cup, Bennanee, in the New Zealand Cup, and Blimp. A recent addition to J. Thorpe’s stable is the Catmint gelding Roval Mint, formerly trained by E. George' at New Plymouth. Royal Mint has given indications this season of being a good stayer, and it is possible that he may win more good handicaps this season. TROTTING FIXTURES November 8-10-11.—N.Z.
