Bakehouse in Flames.—A fire in a single-storey, wooden bakehouse in McCauley Street, Newton, was extinguished by the City Brigade shortly after 8 p.m. yesterday. The outbreak spread from a heap of sawdust to one side of the building, which was badly damaged. The bakehouse, which is owned by the Walton Estate trustees, is occupied by Mr. H. Barber.

Demolition of the old Napier Street School, which has been authorised by the Education Department, will deprive the Auckland Play Association of its club-rooms.
