EXPRESS BUS WILL STOP ON SATURDAY
ONEHUNGA ROUTE ROSKILL SERVICE CHANGES “The express ‘through’ bus service to Onehunga will be discontinued as from Saturday,” Cr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the 4 Tramways Committee, announced this morning. rpHIS decision was reached by the ; Tramways Committee yesterday. ! “The revenue from the service has only approximated 4d a bus mile,” remarked Cr. Allum. “Every endeavour has been made to retain it, but it has not been well-patronised, and it cannot be continued at its present 70 to 75 per cent, loss.” ' FEEDER SERVICES Another alteration decided on concerned the Roskill bus services from the Dominion Road terminus. At the request of the ratepayers in the Roskill West area, the “through” service to the city, at rush periods, is to be discontinued, and in its place a ten-minute feeder service will be run during busy periods, and a 20minute service during the remainder of the day. The Roskill service was the subject of discussion between the representatives of the Mount Roskill Road Board and members of *he Tramways Committee yesterday. The board members urged the necessity for tramway extensions. They were told that the committee was fully aware of the necessity for tramway extensions in the district, but that the city ratepayers were obviously reluctant to vote money for extensions in districts unless those districts were prepared to accept some responsibility for the financial maintenance of the services, during the early stages. Those present informally discussed the possibility of the area undertaking some such responsibility and proposals were made which will be discussed by the road board, and referred back to the committee with the views of the board. STILL UNSATISFACTORY An indication that the bus service was still giving the committee serious i concern was given this morning by ! Cr. Allum, who stated that the comI mittee was again giving the position an exhaustive examination.
