DISTRESSED SOLDIERS

R.S.A.’S GOOD WORK ASSISTANCE TO 1,600 MEN More than 1,600 cases were assisted and £2,000 was expended toward this end by the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association during the winter. The Poppy Day Fund and the Canteen Fund each realised £I,OOO, and distress among ex-soldiers was greatly minirhised. The secretary, Mr. E. H. Sharp, made personal inquiry into each case, and not one penny was wasted. A system of subsidising the wages was introduced, thus allowing the benefits to be more extensive. The association also helped men in other directions.
