SUPPORT FROM SWIMMING CENTRE
BATHS FOR PT. CHEVALIER COUNCIL’S “DOG-IN-MANGER” ATTITUDE The Swimming Association is enthusiastic about the permit to Dixieland Ltd. to build swimming baths at Point Chevalier. Mr. T. C. Hobbs-Jones, chairman of the Auckland Centre of the New' Zealand Swimming Association. stated with reference to the baths. “We consider they would be of great benefit to swimmers and especially to the children of the district. “My association heartily approves of the action of the Government in granting the permit to Dixieland Ltd. and in that we are supported by all the swimming bodies in the Auckland centre.” Mr. Hobbs-Jones thought the City Council had adopted a dog-in-the-manger attitude toward the enterprise. “If it is not prepared to provide baths it should certainly not try to hinder those who are willing to do so.” He emphasised the value of a big bath in inducing people to learn to swim and so encouraging the development of better physique especially among the children.
