PLUNKET BABY CARNIVAL AT TE AWAMUTU

The Plunket royal carnival ends on Friday evening next, when there will be a grand reunion of all workers on the various committees at the Town Hall, where the central executive has arranged for the final stages of the voting to take place. It is anticipated from the amounts lodged with the treasurer on behalf of each of the six committees there will not be a wide margin when the final figures are displayed. The Kiliikihi committee visited Parawera, when a delightful afternoon was arranged by Mrs. Bethune at her residence to allow the . Parawera ladies from the Kiliikihi committee to meet the Parawera ladies and discuss matters in connection with the campaign. After plans had been explained, competitions were indulged in, the first -prize being won by Mrs. L. Kay and the second by" Miss M. Kay and Mrs. Jones. This function was followed by a concert and dance in the Parawera Hall on Friday night. Visitors were present from Kiliikihi and the local support was good. A very pleasant evening was given by Mrs. James, Mrs. Prendeville and Mrs. Cavers to further the interests of the Kihikihi candidates. There was a good attendance, and the results from all sources was gratifying. A floral fete, under the auspices of the Locke-Williams committee, took place at Albert Park on Saturday, when there was a fair attendance. Several stalls, etc., were open for business and the Municipal Band rendered a number of musical selections, while a troop of Girl Guides gave a display of physical drill. The following were the awards: Car, Mr. M. Wililams 1, Mrs. Peake 2; bicycle, Mr. Chitenden 1, Miss Laurie 2; perambulator, Mrs. Oliphant 1, Mrs. Collinge 2; child’s pram, Patty Gee, 1; tandem team, Mrs. C. A. Finch, 1; baby show, under six months. Donald Reidpath 1; under 12 months, Kita Williams, 1: under two years, Roy, Collinge, 1.
