PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
CHRISTMAS CLEAN UP The Papatoetoe Town Board met last night, when Mr. W. J. Nicholson, in the absence of Mr. Hall, occupied the chair. The foreman reported the procuration of a dump to enable the district to have a “clean up” before Christmas. It was decided that the Works Committee announce the day when the cleanup is to take place. The chairman of the works committe recommended the purchase of 50 barrels of restar for the completion of the Great South Road footpath and Station Road path, and also that 100 barrels be ordered for the forthcoming tarring season. It was decided that the by-law in regard to motor-car headlights be brought into line with those of neighbouring boards. Mr. Jones, engineer in charge of the water supply, attended and reported that the proposed reservoir on McLaughlin’s Hill would fie 100 feet above the distributing tank on Mulcock’s Hill, and he estimates the pressure available in the town area would be 601 b. to the square inch. He also reported that the Otahuhu Council could not guarantee the supply from their source, and that the pipes at present laid to Papatoetoe were inadequate. It was decided that the board call the attention of the Manukau County Council to the bad state of the top end of Buckland’s Road. Accounts totalling £76 6s 2d were passed for payment. The chairman of the finance committee reported that the amount of arrears and current rates due was £ 4.322.
