OCTOBER A DRY MONTH
WHAT STATISTICS SHOW LESS RAIN THAN USUAL “A fine seasonable month with the rainfall 125 points below the average.” Thus runs the report made by the official Government observer, Captain D. McLeay, on the weather experienced in Auckland for the past month of October. Rain fell on only ten days, and the highest daily fall was experienced on October 23, when .78 of an inch was registered. A total of 190 hours of sunshine was experienced, and on only two was no sunshine recorded at the Albert Park observatory. Westerly to south-westerly winds prevailed throughout. The barometer rose as high as 30.496 inches on October 27, and fell to 29.634 on October 23, moving through a range of .862 of an inch for the month. The approximate mean temperature in the shade has been 56.1 degrees Fahrenheit. The extreme maximum temperature of 6S degrees was recorded on October 21 and 22, and the coldest day was October 25. when the thermometer registered 41 degrees.
