KAPITI JOYS
M.P’s Excursion ENFORCED STAY CHIRPY POLITICIANS RETURN (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. It was a very chirpy party of Parliamentarians that returned to Wellington to-day after being marooned for 24 hours on Kapiti Island on account of rough weather which prevented the usual launch communication from Paekakariki. The weather was anything but good this morning, but fishermen who run the launch between the island and the mainland effected a creditable trip across and landed their cargo of eight members of the House of Representatives and three others on the open beach in spite of the heavy seas running along the coast. “Jolly fine trip,” is how some members d-esc.ribe their adventure, although it was freely admitted that sleeping on hard boards and among stones under the trees was not as conducive to peaceful slumber as eiderdown at home. The party did not run short of food, the ham and three fowls which they took across on Saturday being supplemented by supplies of fresh fish caught by members themselves, and potatoes which they borrowed for the satisfaction of very healthy appetites. Mr. J. G. Eliott, Oroua, and Mr. J. ‘McCombs, Lyttelton, had charge of the commissariat, while the other six Messrs. H. G. Dickie, Patea, W. JL Field, Otaki, W. A. Veitch, Wanganui, J. R. Hamilton, Awarua. A. M. Samuel, Ohinemuri, and A. H. Harris, Waitemata, as well as Mr. P. Field, junr., and two departmental officers enjoyed the culinary delicacies. While appreciating the bird life on Kapiti the farmer members in the party could not resist #the comment that thousands of acres of fertile land were going to waste.
