TEN-WICKET LOSS

NEW ZEALAND DEFEATED BATSMEN’S GOOD FIGHT SYDNEY, Monday* New South "Wales inflicted a tenwicket defeat on the New Zealand cricketers, in the match ended to-day. Play was continued in muggy weather. It was soon clear that the players were feeling the heat, and the wicket was hard.

One wicket (Dempster's) was down for 10 runs, when Mills and Lowry went to the wicket in the morning. Mills, who had never been comfortable, was caught out after a quarter of an hour. The New Zealanders went on to make a gallant fight, and just averted an innings defeat. There were some vigorous partnerships, which pleased the spectators. The Innings yielded 292. New South Wales commenced its second innings requiring eight runs to win. Kippax and Phillips -went to the crease and the required runs were

obtained by extras, consisting of seven byes and one leg-bye. Scores: — NEW ZEALAND First Innings C. S. DEMPSTER, c Gregory. b Mailey * * * * * **" J E. MILLS, hit wkt.. b Everett .. )’; M L.
