SHOT AT PRESIDENT
GREEK DEAF-MUTE WITH REVOLVER WORKLESS AND REVENGEFUL By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. ATHENS, Sunday. An attempt was made to assassinate President Konduriotis, while he was entering a motor-car after opening the Mayor's Congress in the Municipal Buildings. A man in the crowd fired a bullet, which struck a bystander in the face and then hit the windshield. Splinters of glass slightly injured the President. The bullet was found on the floor of the car. The crowd attempted to lynch the assailant, who, when arrested, gave the name of Zafirios Goussious, aged 30. He was apparently a deaf mute. He wrote a statement saying he w'as unemployed, so he determined to avenge himself by killing the head of the State which would not support him.—A. and N.Z. Admiral Konduriotis was reappointed provisional president of the Republic of Greece, on December 4, 1926, after the overthrow of the dictator, General Pangalos, in August of that year.
