TRADE IN KAURI GUM

MARKETS QUIET Apart from a steady inquiry for white swamp, which, provided it is ary and clean, goes into immediate consumption, business in kauri gum circles is quiet. Regular parcels continue to go forward to London and New York buyers, and the tendency is for exports to increase rather Ilian decrease, but the market shows no sign of improvement. The I-lome trade is particularly quiet, and one correspondent reports attempts to unload surplus stocks held there to New York buyers. It is interesting to note, in the arrivals from North Auckland fields, the regular consignments coming in from the company operating in a big way in the Awanui district. This company has been reported by the board as the firm making the best attempt so far at largescale production. MINING NEWS MOANATAIARI.—The manager reports for the week ended October 29: The drive hillward on reef No. 1 winze has been extended four feet, a total of 6S feet. The reef here is still in two branches. The hangingwall branch averages four feet wide, and carries nice mineral blend, silica, and a little ruby silver. The foot.wall leader averages eight inches wide, and has been split up a little, but is coming together again, and in the race is 12 inches wide. Colours and dabs of gold were seen in the branch. As the two branches are now 10 feet apart. I have left the hangingwall branch for the time, and am driving on the footwall one. The drive seaward on reef off No. 1 winze has been extended three feet, a total of 55 feet. The reef here is stiil in two branches. The hangingwall branch averages two feet wide, and is a nice body of stone, carrying mineral, silica, and blend. Colours and dabs of gold were seen in the ore. The footwall branch averages 12 inches wide, and is also a compact body of stone, carrving mineral, blend, and silica. Colours and dabs of gold were seen in the branch. As these two branches are also 10 feet apart, and the footwall one is still going off. I have left the footwall for the present, and am driving only on the hangingwall branch. *

Imports of textile machinery into Germany from Britain have increased considerably in the past month, says a telegram from Berlin. This is not so much due to the season’s influence, but to the long-term credits granted by tlie owners of the leading British textile machinery factories. German imports from Britain in September totalled 1,216 tons, as against 1,051 tons in the previous month.—A. and N.Z.
