New Sunday School.—Methodists of the Paparoa circuit have opened a new Sunday School at Mareretu.
Lamb Losses In South.—A very heavy mortality among lambs has been experienced in North Otago this year. The deaths occur chiefly among strong, vigorous lambs. Post mortems have shown that the kidneys of the stricken lambs have been diseased. —Press Association.
Papakura Orphans.—There was a large attendance, including official visitors from other clubs, at the closing night for the season of the Papakura Orphans’ Club on Thursday evening. During the evening Mr. L. Kelly, of Auckland, and a life member of the Papakura Club, presented the club with an honours board for recording the holder of the office of president each year.
Churches and Summer-Time.—At a meeting of the executive of the Wellington Ministers’ Association it was decided to advise the ministers not to change the time of services on Sundays on account of the coming into operation of the Daylight Saving Act.
Assault by Detective.— A suggestion that a compassionate grant of £25 should be made by the Government to Henry Mornington Smith, of Wellington, as a solatium for the assault committed on him recently by a detective, is made in the report of the committee which considered Smith’s petition to Parliament for compensation. The report was tabled in the House and was referred to the Government for favourable consideration.
