HOCKEY DANCE
The Whiri Whiri Ladies’ Hockey Club held a very successful dance in the Public Hall, Waiuku, on Wednesday evening. The hall was gaily decorated, a ring of balloons was hung in the centre of the room and from them royal blue streamers were suspended. Other parts of the hall were made attractive with nikau palms, lilies and roses. together with crossed hockey sticks. During the evening the Rev. C. H. Kendon, president of the Franklin Hockey Association, presented Mr. J. Turner, captain of the Whiri Whiri Men’s Hockey Team, with the “Smith Cup,” the trophy for the knock-out competition. In presenting the “Avery Cup” to the Whiri Whiri ladies’ team, the president congratulated the members on having won the trophy during the last four years. On behalf of those who had subscribed toward their purchase, he then presented a miniature cup to each of the members of the winning team as a memento of the fine performance put up by them. The following were the recipients: Mrs. J. Turner, Misses Masters, Wells, D. Clark, Thomson, E. Codlin, M. Thomson, M- E. Brown, K. McNaughten, M. Codlin, F. McNamara, U. Hull, M. Masters.
