“BEAU SABREUR”
MIGHTY DESERT PICTURE “Beau Sabreur” the mighty picture of lighting on the sands of Northern Africa, which is being filmed by Paramount, required particularly elaborate effort for just the right location. Part of the story was filmed on the big Lasky ranch near Hollywood, which wasn’t such a difficult place to reach. Then the whole company of 1,500 people was moved down in the California desert near the town of Gaudalupe, in the midst of sand wastes as convincing as any in the Sahara. A city of tents was put up for them, dally service of airplanes was inaugurated to transport people, properties and films across the sands. From there it was necessary to go to the third setting which the Paramount scouts had discovered. It is near the town of Red Rock on the Mojave Desert, where thrilling scenes of battle in mountain passes were to be filmed. The temperature at Red Rock reached 110 in the shade, although it is not required that one stay in the shade!
