“DEVIL’S ISLAND” Pauline Frederick, one of the greatest emotional actresses the screen has ever known, has found what is believed to be a finer vehicle for her talents than her famous “Madam X.” This new role, the part of Jeanette Pic to in “Devil’s Island,’’ a Master Picture, provides this brilliant star with an opportunity for the fullest display of her versatility. ■'Devil’s Island,” a Master Picture, which will be shown at the Empire Theatre to-night, is the first motion picture ever made with the French penal settlement at Devil’s Island for Its background. Leah Baird. who wrote the story especially for the star, spent many months of research so that this picture would portray accurately this strange and little-known land of grief and sorrows. “Frisco Sally Levy,” starring Sally O'Neill, will also bo screened.
