CHAMPIONSHIP RIBBONS

A. AND P. ASSOCIATION’S RIGHTS AUCKLAND’S MOVE OPPOSED Considerable discussion took place at the general meeting of the Auckland A. and P. Association yesterday afternoon over* the question of the proposal of the association to award North Island championship ribbons at future fixtures. A notice of motion proposed by Mr. J. P. Kalaugher, secretary of the New Zealand Friesian Association, “That the North Island championships for Friesian cattle and Romney sheep be deleted from the schedule and that in these classes Auckland metropolitan championships be awarded,” was responsible for the discussion. Air. Kalaugher said he considered the association had made a great mistake in making the alteration. The breed associations would not recognise the right of the Auckland association to award North Island championships. The Friesian Association had already awarded its North Island title at Wairarapa Show this year.

In reply to a questioner, Mr. Kalaugher stated that the Friesian Breeders’ Association considered it held the right to nominate the shows to which the North Island championships for Friesian cattle should be allocated. Mr. C. W. Anderson strongly opposed the motion. “SECOND ONLY TO ROYAL SHOW” Auckland took second place only to the Royal Show. If the breed societies stood in the way of makings the Auckland Show the premier show of the North Island then it was time to oppose them. Mr. Hodge said that though the Friesian Association had allocated the North Island championships for Friesians to Carterton this year, it was merely the Friesian Association’s championship. He contended that the Auckland Association should carry on with the schedule as it was issued. Mr. Kalaugher said that if the association insisted in attempting to carry out its proposal it would be doing itself considerable harm. There were other important shows in the North Island that had to be considered. To carry on with the proposal would mean that all the breed associations would be antagonised. The notice of motion was received and will be dealt with at a special meeting to be held on Friday next. A further notice of motion was brought forward by Mr. C. W. Anderson to the effect that £SO be devoted advertising the North Island championships at present provided for in the schedule. This motion will also be dealt with on Friday. Riddolls, A.
