KNOCKED OFF SEAT

ASSAULT IN TRAM TACITURN MAN ATTACKED WHEN George Findlay refused to converse with a talkative fellow-traveller in a tram last evening, he was hit on the face and knocked off his seat* His assailant, William James Dobson, aged 32, pleaded not guilty at the Police Court to-day to a charge of assault. Findlay said that accused, while under the influence of liquor, sat beside him and made some remarks which witness ignored. “He then began to talk to my brother,” said Findlay, “but he suddenly ‘hauled off’ and hit me on the face, knocking me off the seat.” “I have nothing to say about it,” said Dobson. “Well, I have,” replied the Magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt. “You’re fined 40s and ordered to pay expenses.”
