BRITISH BOYS’ TITLE

AMERICANS DEFEATED VERY BRIGHT SCORING A small contingent of three American lads went to England to try and complete the devastation of recent years by annexing the British boys' title. None of them got past the first few rounds. For the second time in the history of the boys’ golf championship an English player secured the title. Eric Fiddian, of the Bromsgrove School, who beat a typical young Scot in Kenneth Forbes, of Leven, 4 and 2, is a member of the club—Stourbridge —that claims the English amateur champion, Dr. Tweddell. Fiddian's play throughout the championship at Edinburgh was of a high standard. What he was up against in the final may be gauged from the fact that he did the first IS holes in 75 and was then only one up. For 25 holes the match hung in the balance. Up to that point Forbes fought tenaciously, but at the eighth hole in the afternoon he fell behind, and tired very badly. Fiddian, on the other hand, playing a powerful and accurate game, won the next three holes, and established a lead of four, and the match then seemed to be as good as over. Forbes was never once in the lead, and at one time in the first round he was three down. That was at the 10th hole, but he brought Fiddian back to one at the 18th, and squared the match at the third hole in the afternoon.
