PLUNKET CARNIVAL AT TE AWAMUTU

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive committee of the Te Awamutu Plunket Carnival was held on Saturday evening. The following were present:—Mr. F. Quin, chairman, Mrs. Swarbrick, secretary, Messrs. J. G. Wynyard (treasurer, A. E. Patterson, S. A. Empson, W. Cavanagh, W\ Whitton and Murphy. In order to facilitate reference to the different committees, it was decided to replace the names by numbers, and a ballot resulted as under:—Locke-Wil-liams Babies, No. 1; Kihikihi, No. 2; Baker-Nielsen, No. 3; Mangapiko-Pate-rangi, No. 4; Hairini-Puahue, No. 5; Pokuru-Te Kawa, No. 6. Mr. Cavanagh stated that No. 5 committee proposed to hold a Paddy’s Market in Te Awamutu on Thursday, October 27. Approved, and the secretary was instructed to apply for a permit. Mr. Patterson was appointed flag steward, Mr. Rainey kindly consenting to allow the committee the use of his flagpole. It was decided to commence the display of the flags indicating the relative positions of the candidates on Thursday, October 27. The number of votes standing to the credit of each royal pair on the treasurer’s books will be published on November 3 and 4, in addition to the flying of the flags. A garden party was held at the residence of Mrs. Raymond Jones on the Kihikihi Road in aid of the district’s candidates. A baby show, an attractive Christmas tree, tennis, clock golf | and numerous competitions offered | ample provision for the entertainment of the guests. The baby show proved popular, and the decision of the judges, Mrs. Montifiore, assisted by Mrs. McCurdie, met with approval.
