Tons of Unsold Meat
SEIZED AT^SMITHFiELD BETTER INSPECTION URGED By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.2 a.m. LONDON, Wed. Addressing the Sanitary Inspectors’ Association, Dr. Dunlop Young said though Smithfields meat was supposed to be inspected at the place of slaughter, the Corporation of London, with its large staff of inspectors, seized between 1,000 and 2.000 tons of unsold meat yearly. All the Dominions and the Argentine had veterinary experts at London watching the cargoes. He had long advocated that British veterinary inspectors should be stationed overseas to watch the killing and handling. One had now been allotted to the Argentine.—A. and N.Z. A London cablegram of October S read as follows: A veterinary surgeon. Dr. Dunlop Young, expects to leave for Australia in February to advise the Commonwealth authorities. It his been suggested that he should also visit New Zealand. He says he will be willing to go if the Government invites him.
