THE CAMBRIDGESHIRE

RESULTS IN DEAD HEAT LIGHT-WEIGHTS IN THE VAN By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Wednesday. The following is the result of the final big flat handicap event of the season, run at Newmarket to-day: CAMBRIDGESHIRE STAKES A handicap of 25sovs, with l.OOOsovs added; 9 furlongs straight. MEDAL (Mrs. T. Carthew), br c, by Happy Warrior Honour, 3yrs, NI ANTIC (j. Sharp), ch h, by Stefan the Great—Rosina, 4yrs, 6.3 .. .. * INSIGHT 11. (A. K. Macomber), b g, by Oversight—Court Dress, syrs, 8.3 S ♦Dead-heat for first. There were 21 runners. The third horse was a away. The owners of the deadheaters agreed to divide the stake instead of running it off. —A. and N.Z. Insight 11. won the Cambridgeshire last year, and he went very close to repeating the performance. It will be noticed that one of the deadheaters carried the feather-weight of 6.3, and in this connection it should be observed that the minimum weight in the big handicap events in the Old Country is 6.0. Last year the Cambridgeshire was worth £1,980, and yesterday’s race in the vicinity of £1,965, of which owners contributed no less a sum than £965, or nearly 50 per cent, of the stake. __ The deadheaters would divide £1,865, the third horse taking the other £IOO. When the last mail left England a little over five weeks ago Medal was quoted at fairly long odds (better than Bracken Abbey on Labour Day!), while Niantic was not quite so far back in the betting. The French horse, Insight 11. was among the well fancied division, but at a liberal price. Medal is trained by Wootton, Xiantic by Walters (who also secured third place with Nevermore in the Cesarewitch a fortnight ago), and the third horse in France
