“DOMINION CRICKET NOW ESTABLISHED”
N.Z. COUNCIL REVIEWS VISIT TO ENGLAND Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The annual report of the New Zealand Cricket Council reviews in some detail the visit of the New Zealarid team to England. “The play of the Dominion team.” states the report, "far exceeded the most sanguine expectations of the people of this country, and established an entirely new status for the standard of play, as compared with the other parts of the Empire. “With New Zealand cricket now established on a basis recognised by all cricketing countries of the Empire,” proceeds the report, “it is important that every’ advantage should be taken of the undoubted impetus which has been given to the game in New Zealand in this respect. “Cricket authorities are advised to emulate the example of their Rugby friends, who continue to place a premium on youth. Other lessons of the tour are stated to be the necessity to encourage development of the bowling of the Dominion as well as fielding. “What New Zealand • would have done without its two slow bowlers,” the report goes on, “it is difficult to imagine. The fielding was disappointing, and even at the end of the tour, when it was a better team, it was admitted that it was not a good fielding side. This lesson is not likely to be lost on New Zealand cricket for the future.”
