IMPROVING PLAYING FIELDS

Advice was received by the Auckland Grammar School Board at its meeting yesterday from the Education Department stating that grants for work on the grounds of the Takapuna Grammar School had been approved. The expenditure of £B2O has been authorised and this will be spent in laying out playing areas, paths and a quadrangle. It was reported that £175 had been received from the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Devonport Unemployed Returned Soldiers* Relief Committee, and the department has been asked to subsidise this amount. The Minister of Education advised that the title deed of the school house at the Mount Albert Grammar School had been vested in the board. Information was also received from the department stating that a subsidy of £177 4s 9d had been granted for work on the Mount Albert playing fields. No further grants or subsidies would be made. The headmaster of the Mount Albert School reported that Mrs. Ward Baker wished to present a cup to the school for the junior championship in the annual steeplechase. The board accepted the gift with thanks.
