EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS ENCIRCLE GLOBE
WELLINGTON RECORDS "W ELLINGTON, To-day. Messages received yesterday from .New York and Jimeau (Alaska) recorded big earthquake. The New Zealand Observatory to-day reports that the Central American shock made itself felt first about 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday and lasted some hours, the shock being of such severity'- that the oscillations travelled right round the globe and recorded themselves a second time. Judging by the records it would seem as if the location of the upheaval was somewhere in Central America. The Alaskan shake, reported on the same day, was a local affair of magniture, but not comparable with the other one.
