At various depths shows of gas and oil have occurred, proving that the company is operating in petroleum-bearing strata. The latter at present consists of mudstone and sandstone of varying thickness. The presence of oil is evident in the balings. The indications are very promising and it is hoped the drill will soon reveal the beds of porous sandstone which should prove to contain oil in quantity. The report states that additional capital having been raised for the purpose, the directors purchased 3,200 feet of five-inch casing, which has been delivered at the bore. A new drilling cable will arrive about the middle of November. The balance sheet shows that capital to the amount of £14,737 has been paid up in cash. Plant, tools and building have absorbed £7,085.; the cost of the bore has been £3,744; general development amounts to £2,663; deposits and other expenses, £753.
