THRONE OF RUMANIA DIPLOMAT ARRESTED WILD SPECULATION CAUSED By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyrigh LONDON, Monday. A message from Bucharest says Prince Carol of Rumania recently stated in Paris that if his country called him he would answer the call. The Belgrade correspondent of the “Berliner Tageblatt” says he intends to return to Rumania this week.

capital by the ar rest on the border of the former Under • Secretary of Finance, M. Manoilescu. He was returning from Paris carrying im portant letters Other arrests are expected. The Vienna correspondent of the “Daily Express” says a search of M. Manoilescu revealed four letters secreted in his clothing. A communique says the object of the letters was to induce the people of Rumania to recall Carol to the throne. This amounted to an attack on the Constitution, for which M. Manoilescu would be tried by court-martial. QUEEN MARIE PIQUED It is officially stated that one of the four letters was for the Dowager Queen Marie, who is alleged to be chagrined at finding herself regarded merely as the late King's widow instead of the chief party in the Regency. The correspondent says it is also asserted that in order to be revenged on M. Bratiano. as well
as King Michael’s mother, the Dowager Queen recently became reconciled to Carol, whom, it is said, she now wants to see return as King. Another Vienna correspondent says M. Nicholas Cocea, editor of a paper called the “New Star,” founded by M. Manoilescu, which is to be first issued on November 1, has been arrested.— A. and N.Z.
