WINTRY CONDITIONS
SNOW ON THE HEIGHTS SPORTS POSTPONED Passengers on the Limited this morning got a good view of the wintry conditions in the high country. Snow covered the ground from Taihape to Raurimu, the highest point of the Main Trunk line, but it was not very deep and an hour or two of sunshine should melt it. It was very cold during the night, but fortunately the carriages were warm and comfortable. SHOWERS AND HAIL (From Our Own Correspondent) TE AWAMUTU, Torday. Bitterly cold weather is being experienced in Te Awamutu. Showers are frequent with occasional hail. Pirongia mountain has a slight mantle of snow. BAND SPORTS STOPPED (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. Owing to the boisterous weather the Whangarei Municipal Band sports at Wliangarei were postponed yesterday. COLD AT TAURANGA From Our Own Reporter. TAURANGA, To-day. The Labour Lay holiday in Tauranga was largely spoiled by strong westerly winds, accompanied by cold rain squalls up to mid-day. The afternoon was fine, but bitterly cold. The principal events for the day were the sports on the Domain, and a cricket match, Tauranga v. Te Puke, and the official opening of the Mount*Maunganui tennis courts. SNOW CHECKS FEED OHAKUNE, To-day. Six inches of snow fell on Sunday night at Ohakune and spoilt all sports. There was a further fall on Monday night, giving farmers anxiety, as winter feed has been practically all used up.
